Stick to their happy hour and cocktails until they either simplify the menu or hire a chef capable of preparing the ethnic items on the menu. The menu was too challenging for the chef as he mastered none of the dishes we tried. □ Our friends ordered the lamb shank and lobster mashed potatoes side - which at $18 should have had visible chucks of lobster - which it did not. Then when the bill arrived he graciously mentioned that he removed the vegetables (that never arrived) from the bill. The waiter totally spaced our order of vegetables and, even after we reminded him, they never arrived at the table. We split the Bolognese which had little meat and noodles swimming in a soupy bland sauce. Our Caesar salads were drenched in over garlicky dressing. The Eggroll appetizer was basic and underwhelming. Considering it’s location in the Ventura Harbor, we were surprised by the lack of fresh local seafood choices from the menu. So we were looking forward to sharing the experience and beautiful restaurant with friends who hadn’t dined there. Prior to the Covid shutdown we’d frequently visit and greatly enjoyed Water’s Edge for happy hour and a light dinner either in the bar or on the deck with our dog. The restaurant is beautifully set and we loved our experience. We were excited to return to what once was an excellent dining experience. We visited the restaurant on a Saturday and Sunday evenings and they were never busy. The cheesecake was not good or not good to our liking. The calamari and clam chowder was excellent. We had calamari, clam chowder, and the caramel cheesecake. Matt did not come over to us or even tell us that Dimitri was taking over. He came straight over to us and looked pleasantly happy to see us. About 40 minutes later, Dimitri showed up for his shift. There was only one couple at the bar he was focusing most of his attention on. He was not the friendly or attentive bartender we had the night before. Our bartender was Matt, he has been working there for 8 years. It was lacking something and it was served over ice, would have loved just a single cube. The second night we came in for happy hour. We had the octopus appetizer and the beet salad for our dinner along with a few drinks. He was personable and explained the dishes well. He was very attentive and made great drinks. Our first night we had Dimitri, he has been working at the restaurant for 1.5 years. Who doesn't like to watch the sunset during happy hour? To be able to watch the fishermen, kayakers, and sailors sailing in during sunset is fun to watch.
